What is Asthma?

Asthma is a chronic condition that inflames or narrows airways, making it difficult to breath. Asthma can cause a variety of symptoms including wheezing, coughing, tightening of the chest and shortness of breath.

Asthma manifests itself in different way for different people. For some, asthma is a minor condition and does not interfere with daily activities. For others, it can be a major issue and in some cases life-threatening.

Asthma is a disease that cannot be cured, but its symptoms can be managed. Asthma symptoms can change over time, and it is important that you work with your White-Wilson primary care doctor to control your asthma.

Asthma Group Appointment Classes

White-Wilson Pediatrician, Dr. Evan Meeks, hosts Asthma Group Appointment (AGAP) classes each month in both Fort Walton Beach and Niceville. AGAP classes are open to children and adults who have been diagnosed with asthma.

The shared medical appointment style classes focus on identifying triggers and best utilizing medications. Participants work to develop an asthma control plan and understand how to react in asthma-related scenarios. These management plans can then be shared with caregivers and school staff to understand the asthmatics unique needs.

You do not have to be a patient of Dr. Meeks or White-Wilson Medical Center to participate. However, advance registration is required.

Niceville – First Wednesday of each month, 4 p.m.
Fort Walton Beach
– 3rd Wednesday of each month, 4 p.m.
