FORT WALTON BEACH, Florida – August 26, 2014 — The mission of the White-Wilson Community Foundation (WWCF) is to make our community the healthiest on Earth. Formed in 2012, the non-profit organization builds partnerships and supports organizations impacting community health. Through the fundraising success of the 5th Anniversary Little Black Dress Party, the group awarded almost $50,000 in grants on Monday.
"We are pleased to award grants to local organizations impacting the lives of women in our community," said White-Wilson Community Foundation Vice President Alan Gieseman. "We received an out-pouring of community support and are proud to work alongside these great organizations to serve the health needs of local women."
A grant for $25,000 went to the Okaloosa County Health Department to support the department's breast cancer screening and treatment program. WWCF's generous donation will greatly increase the number of women receiving breast cancer screenings and vital treatment through the department.
"It's one thing to receive a screening mammogram; it's quite another to deal with those results," said Dr. Karl Metz. "Through this partnership with the Okaloosa County Health Department, we hope to help more women detect and treat cancer early."
Additional grants, totaling almost $25,000, were awarded to the Emerald Coast Autism Center, Family Life Ministries of Northwest Florida, Shelter House and the Mental Health Association of Okaloosa and Walton Counties.
